A FOREST FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

Ricardo Picture2.png

As guardians of the Earth, the First Nations have the mission to ensure that human activities taking place on our territory, the Nitassinan, are respectful of the air, land, lakes and rivers that surround us.

The First Nations want to actively participate in the activities of the forest industry and especially in land use planning, reforestation and the production of seedlings that will be planted on our territory.

I have spent more than 25 years of my life planting millions of trees and reforesting thousands of hectares of forest, and today I am proud to see my two daughters, Chloé and Stéphanie, not only want to take over, but also help us preserve the boreal forest and leave a beautiful legacy for future generations.

OUR TERRITORY

THE NITASSINAN

Nitassinan, whose name means “Our land” in Innu-Aimun, is the ancestral territory of the Innu people located in Eastern Canada in Quebec and Labrador. The traditional territory of the Innu includes the Quebec-Labrador Peninsula from the boreal forests of the north shore of the St. Lawrence River to the inland tundra around Ungava Bay. The Innu have lived in Nitassinan for 8,000 years. For 400 years, European settlers have occupied the territory, mainly for the exploitation of natural resources.
